Benefit For Local Victim Of The Las Vegas Shooting Planned for Sunday
Kortney Spencer was enjoying the final day of the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on October 1st when she was overwhelmed with a bad feeling and asked her friends to get away from the crowd. Before they knew it, bullets were flying through the air and people were frantically looking for safety. Spencer, a Monmouth County resident, was one of the first people shot during this horrific event.
“I just knew I wanted to get away from the noise, and all of the sudden I turned around to see if my friend was behind me, and I got shot in the leg. Everybody was still singing and dancing, and Jason Aldean was still performing, and I got shot,” she told our friends at 107.1 The Boss. “There were no gunfire sounds yet. Everybody was happy, and when I looked down, that is when I sat down, and my leg was completely blasted open.”
58 people were killed and more than 500 were injured by the shooter, Stephen Paddock. Spencer was kind enough to take the time to tell Michele Amabile from our sister station, 107.1 The Boss about her experience.
Spencer is on the road to recovery, but it’s a long process of expensive surgeries and healing. Join Chris VanZant at a benefit for Kortney Spencer tomorrow from 3pm to 7pm at the Port Monmouth VFW. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. You can also donate to her GoFundMe and ‘Like’ her Facebook page.
