Cutting Edge Country: ‘Pirate Song’ by Kenny Chesney
Kenny Chesney released another song off of his new album, Songs For The Saints. ‘Pirate Song’ is a classic Kenny-style ballad.
“This album isn’t about St. John, so much as it’s about what happened to St. John and all those islands you didn’t see on the news,” Chesney told Taste Of Country. “To just see the devastation and what that does to people is one thing, but then there’s this courage and resilience people find.”
According to People Magazine, all of the profits from his new album are being donated to the victims of the category 5 storm Hurricane Irma that devastated the Virgin Islands last year.
The presale for #SONGSFORTHESAINTS starts tonight. I wanted to make a record that shows the spirit and resilience of the people who live in the islands, who are generationally tied to them, or are raising families there. To me, it’s about the hope, the strength, the joy and the courage they are bringing to the task of rebuilding after a kind of destruction no one has ever seen before. To let them know, they’re not only not forgotten months later, but we’re holding them up as inspiration and offering help in any way that we can, including music. Because music heals, it inspires, and this is for them. I knew I wanted this album to show the spirit of the people, but I wanted it to focus on healing, on their gift to rise above such complete chaos and devastation. They had no power, no real food, nothing. They dug in, started clearing the land and rebuilding. To me, that’s inspiring. #noshoesnation #vistrong
This will be the first album he is releasing through his new label, Blue Chair/Warner Bros. He left Sony earlier this year, after spending just about his whole career with them. On this album, he had help from Jimmy Buffet, Ziggy Marley, and other artists who are all tied to the island life.
Songs For The Saints is due out on July 27th. He is coming to Jersey Country! Chesney is bringing his Trip Around The Sun Tour to Metlife Stadium on August 17th with Brandon Lay, Old Dominion and Thomas Rhett. Stay tuned to Thunder106 for all of the latest new and music from Kenny Chesney!
