Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile + More Debut New Supergroup at Loretta Lynn’s Birthday Bash
Country’s biggest stars gathered at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville to celebrate Loretta Lynn’s birthday! Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires debuted new supergroup! They call themselves The Highwomen and they are ready to take over country music!
All four women are accomplished musicians and songwriters in Nashville, mostly as solo artists, but Shires is also in a band that is lead by her husband, Jason Isbell. Hemby has written many songs for Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban, and several others.
“I re-wrote the original Highwaymen song with Jimmy Webb, with stories of women who died in protest. We wrote a bunch of country songs, Dave Cobb is producing the record and we are saying, ‘We are country artists,’ and we are going to ask they include us. And if they do or don’t, either way it will tell a story about feminism in rural American music,” Carlile told Rolling Stone magazine.
